UK 2024 Panorama Results - Mangrove Steelband emerges as 2024 Panorama champs after Notting Hill Carnival correction

London, England, U.K. - A smaller but no less intense musical battle for steelband supremacy took place at Emslie Horniman’s Pleasance Park this year on Saturday August 24. Five bands beginning with then-eleven-time champ Mangrove Steelband had their turn at the national Panorama title on stage. In 2023 the competition was a bit stiffer with seven steel orchestras taking part.

And - now for the REWRITE. For more than ninety minutes - results of Ebony Steelband taking Panorama title twenty-five, and Duvone Stewart having his sixth success in the UK Panorama stood. After all, results were announced ‘live’ just around 11:38 p.m. You can see it here. People had left the venue, were on their way home. Ebony supporters, their hearts full with fierce pride for yet another victory. Stories published.

Then the social media rumbling and notifications surfaced - that Mangrove Steelband—which last triumphed in 2021—was the winner, working with arranger André White, and Ebony Steelband was now second. The ‘correction’ from event organizers Notting Hill Carnival was posted on Facebook, then ‘official’ results on ‘X,’ formerly Twitter.

The one thing that didn’t change? The winning Panorama tune - the ever-uplifting How Ah Livin’ by “Farmer Nappy,” who himself had taken the stage with Mangrove, flag in hand. It had also been Ebony’s tune of choice.

Unlike previous years, the results did not include scores of the individual bands. Only the placings were shared with the public.
