St. George’s, Grenada, W.I. - It has been two years since Commancheros Steel Orchestra was atop the country’s national Panorama competition, in 2022. And the road back there goes through seven other competing bands, not least, the defending champion New Dimension Steel Orchestra.
This year, Commancheros’ champion arranger Andre “Maestro” Greenidge is joined by Mikiel “Pan Guru” Smith in the quest for Panorama glory. The band’s tune of choice is Simple Policeman by “Skylark” and is first up in the Saturday August 10 competition.
For New Dimension with champion arranger Cordel Byam, title defense will be in their hands when they take the stage fourth in the line-up with In Me Head by “Mr. Gold’N.” Angel Harps is definitely keen to regain championship status—last theirs in 2015—when performing as the penultimate band for the night. It will be its second Panorama appearance with Jevon Andrews who took over the musical reins from veteran long-time champion arranger James Clarkson. Angel Harps opted for Hurricane by “Inspector.”
The 2024 Panorama is expected to kick off at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday August 10 at the Kirani James Athletic Stadium.
The 2024 national Junior Panorama which unfolded as part of the annual Children Carnival Frolic on August 3, was won by Angel Harps Steel Orchestra Juniors.
