New York, USA - Pan Evolution
Steel Orchestra ably defended its 2024 championship by taking a
consecutive title in the 2025 New York Panorama. Playing in the
penultimate position of the eight competing steel orchestras -
the band affectionately known as ‘PESO’ delivered a strong and
decisive performance of André White’s champion arrangement of
Too Own Way by “Voice.”

New York, USA - The new kids on the Panorama block—the members of PanAlley Steel Orchestra—are up first in the 2025 New York Panorama competition on Saturday August 30.
Reigning champions Pan Evolution Steel Orchestra are playing in
position seven out of the eight bands expected to compete, and
are in a good position to defend their title.

London, England, U.K. - It is
title number thirteen for 2025 UK National Panorama champion
Mangrove Steelband, led by its arranger André White. The
sweetness of the band’s performance of his arrangement of Kes
The Band’s Cocoa Tea merited first place honors as it maintained
its championship status.

Grenada, W.I. - Commancheros Steel
Orchestra returned to the top in the 2025 national Panorama competition held
Saturday August 9, 2025. The band was last victorious in 2022. To retake the
title, the 2025 champions bested six fellow competitors and in so doing
clinched their eighth Panorama victory.

New York, USA - ....Couldn’t resist the urge to shake a leg as the Labor Day weekend closes in? Check. Stage sides of steel orchestras Eruption, reigning New York Panorama champions Pan Evolution and Pan In Motion all dropped scintillating sets which were not limited to, but did indeed include and showcase - sweet soca during their individual hour-long sessions.
....And to get it all in one place, showcasing the culture of the
Caribbean community while whetting the appetite for pre-Labor Day activities
and the day itself - complete with Carnival-style atmosphere? Check. The
Ticketmaster Plaza at Barclays Center was definitely the place for anyone
who wanted to experience it all—for free—at the Counterpoint: Brooklyn Steel
Pan Fête on Sunday July 27 courtesy Clara Wu Tsai and the Social Justice
Fund she launched in 2020. Counterpoint is part of the annual Belong
Brooklyn Concert Series.

Antigua & Barbuda, W.I. -
Panorama victory was sweet for Hells Gate Steel Orchestra in
2025, and especially so as the music organization is celebrating
its eightieth anniversary. Together with resident champion
arranger Khan Cordice, who now has his eleventh Panorama title
with Hells Gate - this night is definitely one to remember.
Making its Panorama debut, Pandemonium Steel Orchestra led by
Dr. Zahra Lake took second place, with Halcyon Steel Orchestra
placing third.

Facebook “Likes” sends PanOnTheNet Apology - “We got it wrong”
Metaverse - Facebook got it wrong. About
three years ago without warning or reason all WST (When Steel Talks) steelpan-related
accounts fell out of favor with the social media giant Facebook now known as
Meta and its aligned consortiums (Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp). Because
WST has all of our material hosted on our own shared servers, this ‘tag’ was
not incurable or as problematic as it could have been. However, it was annoying
to have people seeking critical steelpan music info diverted by Facebook AI
(artificial intelligence).

Celebrating Steelpan - Illustration by artist Nicholas Huggins
Global - On Tuesday July 26, 2022 the steelpan instrument of Trinidad and Tobago is featured and celebrated on the site of technology giant “Google” via the famed Google ‘Doodle.’ The ‘Doodle’ is essentially an illustrative change made to the Google corporate logo “to celebrate holidays, anniversaries, and the lives of famous artists, pioneers, and scientists” - and more. The doodle is then seen by users all around the world who access Google’s homepage on that day, and is available thereafter in the doodle archives.
....Trinidad and Tobago-based artist Nicholas Huggins is the creator of the
illustrative artwork featured in the doodle, while
Etienne Charles is the composer of the accompanying music performed by the
legendary steelpan icon
Len “Boogsie” Sharpe.
