She was an ambassador

Since You left so untimely
You came to this land
Because of your love for steel pan

We miss you dearly

Anslem Douglas
Top vocalist Anslem Douglas is always one to keep an ear out for whenever the Panorama season rolls around. For 2017 music lovers had their fill with such performances as We Are Conquerors and Pan Kingdom.
He is at work here on Asami (This One Is For You) written by Eugene Bonaparte Williams aka “Bogene.”
The Grammy award-winning composer of “Who Let The Dogs Out” - Douglas’ vocal work has also brought alive such marquis ‘Pan Songs’ as Len “Boogsie” Sharpe’s Musical Vengeance, Battle Zone and It’s Showtime by the late Edwin Pouchet, and Brian “Bean” Griffith’s Big In De Dance - to name but a few over the last several years.
Eugene Bonaparte Williams aka “Bogene” was born in Point Fortin, Trinidad and emigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1976. His passion for writing songs goes back to his childhood days. Though his career path was not music-related he never stopped writing songs over the years. He writes songs in different genres of music and credits his neighbour Mr. Clarke on Main Field Road for this as he played songs from different genres of music which “Bogene” absorbed in his young developing mind.
Though he had never written a so-called “pan song” he was so saddened by the tragic death of Japanese panist Asami Nagakiya (1985–2016) that he felt compelled to pay tribute to her in song so he penned Asami (This One Is For You), but he did not get it released in time for the 2017 Panorama season. Undeterred by this he is releasing the song for the 2018 season along with his second penned “pan song” titled Panrific. To quote “Bogene” “It would be a great honor to have a steel band play any of my songs at the Panorama competition.”
