2019 Panorama Info Complete
Trinidad & Tobago, W.I. - The appearance order for the twenty finalists in the National Panorama Single Pan Band finals has been released by Pan Trinbago, after eight days of preliminary single pan competition in the North, East, South/Central and Tobago regions.
San Juan East Side Symphony playing a Carlon “Panman” Harewood arrangement of Iron Man amassed 274 points to take the lead in the Preliminary stage as forty-seven bands (results here) vied for only twenty places available to move directly on to the Finals in their category. For the record, sixty-three was the original number of single pan bands listed to participate in the 2019 season.
Under the caption “Pan Prosperity…. Feeling the Spirit… Catching the Rhythm…” this year’s competition is in tribute to “Our Cultural Icons” (of Trinidad & Tobago) - Dr. Winston Bailey aka The Mighty Shadow, Ken “Professor” Philmore and Winston “The Original De Fosto Himself” Scarborough - all recently deceased.
The finalists were announced at the Murchison Brown Auditorium, Port of Spain City Hall on Wednesday January 30, in the presence of the bands’ respective representatives, while the draw for playing positions was conducted by TTT (Trinidad & Tobago Television) Ltd. the following day at the NCC (National Carnival Commission) VIP Lounge at Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain.
Adjudicators in this category are: Mrs. Joslynne Sealey, Dr. Audley Timothy, Mr. Brendon Moore, Ms. Bernadette Roberts, Mr. Cuthbert Matthews and Mr. Vorbin Cordice.
The National Single Pan Finals will take place at The Basketball Court, Princess Royal Park in Arima, on Sunday February 3, at 6:00 p.m. Admission is TT$100.00 upon entry.
Defending champions, Newtown Playboys Steel Symphony, will play first on Sunday. Coming in seventeenth position from the preliminaries, the single pan band is looking to make it three championships in a row, having also won back in 2017.
This would be the first National competition in the 2019 Trinidad & Tobago Panorama season. Next up in the competitive spotlight will be the preliminaries for the Small, Medium and Large conventional steel orchestras.
