2023 Panorama Info Complete

Trinidad & Tobago, W.I. - The country’s 2023 National Junior Panorama Finals are in the books, with three champion bands staking their claim on national titles. On the sunny morning of Sunday January 22 at the Queen’s Park Savannah in Port-of-Spain, Carenage Boys’ Government in the primary school division, struck the first notes in competition at 9:40 a.m. local time (AST - Atlantic Standard Time). Santa Maria RC School which was to appear on stage first arrived late and performed in position five. Results for these first bands were available by 12:40 p.m. when Guaico Presbyterian Steel Orchestra retained their championship, with two of the players on behalf of band mates triumphantly receiving the trophy from Trinidad & Tobago’s Minister of Education Minister, Dr. Nyan Gadsby-Dolly.

In the Secondary schools category, NAPS Combined Steel Orchestra (Naparima Girls High & Naparima College) dethroned Bishop Anstey & Trinity College East (B.A.T.C.E.) Steel Orchestra, while Tropical Angel Harps Youth Steel Orchestra bested the twelve other bands in the running when they took the title in the 21 and Under category.

Most bands went through preliminaries in their respective divisions before competing in the finals. There were no semi-finals in the junior competition.
Fellow students and family members of the various junior steel orchestras were supporting and cheering in the Grand Stand of the Queen’s Park Savannah even from the early hours. By 3:45 p.m. the venue was filled to capacity, and the Trinidad & Tobago Fire Service prevented anyone else from entering due to safety concerns. The third and final segment of competition - 21 and Under - had not even started. Though supporters of the young performers traditionally attended the finals free of charge over the years, Pan Trinbago initially announced a charge of TT$50.00 and TT$20.00 for adults and children, respectively. However this was negated when the Ministry of Education stepped in and underwrote the cost, according to Pan Trinbago.
The national Junior Panorama was held under the auspices of the Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Pan in Schools Coordinating Council (PSCC) and Pan Trinbago.
