Trinidad & Tobago, W.I. - And the last shall be “first.” That’s the way things apparently ‘played’ out for the finals of the 2025 season of the Single Pan band component of the annual Trinidad & Tobago National Panorama. San Juan East Side Symphony from the Eastern region, led by champion arranger Duvone Stewart and playing last in the competition at position twenty-five - trounced twenty-four competitors, and dethroned title defenders Chord Masters Steel Orchestra in the process.

San Juan East Side Symphony’s score was 284, with Chord Masters’s haul of 276 points putting them in second place. Playing Swing Engine arranged by André White, the band had been going for three titles in a row, having taken the championship in 2023 and 2024. The script flipped as San Juan East Side Symphony occupied the second berth last season. The two bands from sister isle Tobago—Metro Stars Steel Orchestra and Hope Pan Groovers—took the third and fourth spots, respectively.

Organized by Pan Trinbago, this season’s competition was stiffer as there were five more bands on final night, with no semi-finals held this time around. Those top twenty-five bands took their best performances to the stage in front of steelband music lovers at the Grand Stand, Queen’s Park Savannah in Port-of-Spain, on Saturday December 14 under sometimes rainy conditions.
