Beverley Ramsey-Moore – The boss of T&T’s steelpan
community
Trinidad & Tobago, W.I. -
From the sleepy fishing village of Black Rock, Tobago emerged a
woman who became the bass of the steelpan community in T&T.
Beverley Ramsey-Moore, the 17th President of
Pan Trinbago, and the first woman to ever be elected to the
position, fills a room with her passion and energy. She is a
woman dedicated to the lifelong service of our national

Steel pan man Jonathan Scales and his Fourchestra Aug. 12 at The Stone Church

Jonathan Scales and Fourchestra (yes, they’re a trio) play The Stone Church Aug. 12.
New Hampshire, USA - There
are some musicians out there who aren’t afraid to go their own
way while straying from previously established norms. They
prefer to forge their own artistic path and a good amount of the
time their creative output is both inventive and innovative.
This can be said about
Jonathan Scales, who has been expanding the limit of the steel pan
instrument in a variety of ways for over 15 years. He exhibits his craft
with his band known as the Fourchestra, and they’re going to be taking the
stage at The Stone Church in Newmarket on August 12.

Stop using Hells Gate Steel Orchestra as a scapegoat
Opinion
by Stafford Joseph - Senior Panthologist
Antigua & Barbuda, W.I. -
On Sunday May 28, during the Sessions in Steel programme, from
the level of discussions held and the input by some individuals
who are known principals of the Antigua and Barbuda Pan
Association (ABPA), I deem it a covert and overt attempt by
these individuals to use the Caribbean Union Bank Hells Gate
Steel Orchestra (CUB-HGSO) as a ‘scapegoat’ for the ABPA
leadership’s continued failure to appropriately manage the
association’s affairs.

Carnicopia’s Carnival week-long cultural
activities will feature traditional and
conventional mas, J’Ouvert, pan and calypso
Trinidad & Tobago, W.I. -
THE EDITOR: I am at a loss as to why successive governments have
not yet officially proclaimed pan as TT’s national musical
instrument, thereby elevating its national and international
status to that of all our national symbols and emblems – the
flag, the coat of arms, the birds, the flowers, etc.
..... The late prime minister Patrick Manning, who declared pan the
national instrument in his 1992 Independence Day address to the nation, did
not live to see it officially proclaimed via parliamentary procedure as
being our national musical instrument.

wrong. About three years ago without warning or reason all WST
(When Steel Talks) steelpan-related accounts fell out of favor
with the social media giant Facebook now known as Meta and its
aligned consortiums (Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp). Because
WST has all of our material hosted on our own shared servers,
this ‘tag’ was not incurable or as problematic as it could have
been. However, it was annoying to have people seeking critical
steelpan music info diverted by Facebook AI (artificial
