Finals Results - Large Conventional Steel Orchestras - Trinidad & Tobago Panorama 2016 - Desperadoes Steel Orchestra and Arranger Carlton “Zanda” Alexander Win!
Trinidad & Tobago, W.I. - Chaos and Jubilation reigned as Desperadoes Steel Orchestra with their new arranger Carlton “Zanda” Alexander, was declared 2016 National Panorama champion of Trinidad & Tobago, edging out its nine challengers in the process. With this feat, Desperadoes maintains its record of the most Panorama wins in the history of the competition, now with eleven titles to their name. They last won in 2000 with the late master arranger Clive Bradley.
Newcomer to the large band category—moving up from that of small—Supernovas Steel Orchestra with arranger Amrit Samaroo, was also triumphant coming in second, leaving behind other previous champions such as Renegades, Phase II Pan Groove, Silver Stars and 2015 winners Trinidad All Stars, the latter slipping to sixth position overall. There were howls of sheer disbelief by some when Trinidad All Stars' final placing was revealed, trumped only by the growing roar when the last two top orchestras were known to be Supernovas and Desperadoes, and finally when the latter were announced winners. They did indeed prove indeed that "Nobody badder than me" as per the lyrics in part of their winning tune "Different Me."
