September 30, 2004 Panorama Rethink London - September 30, 2004 On Tuesday, 21 September there was a meeting to discuss the possibility of changing the results, and the winner itself, of this year’s Panorama. It appears that one of the judges made mistakes when totaling his scores at the end of the night, and as the mistakes were not spotted by the adjudicator they then contributed to the overall points for the contestants. There was no suggestion of corruption ![]() Resposephotography.com Posted: Sep 29, 2004 11:14 am Pan Trinbago gives

New York - September 26, 2004 By Winifred Lu
I recently saw a picture of a judge sleeping at
the 2004 NY panorama and thought to myself "that poor tortured soul."
Is it really his fault? Should he blamed for lacking the capacity

September 15, 2004 Pan Prodigy By Donna Pierre She’s only
ten and already she’s met a duke and a king. Keisha Codrington is a pan
prodigy who has won many awards and titles. In March of this year she
performed for Britain’s Prince Andrew at She said she’s been playing the pan since age three. How did she get started? She said this was a question for her father, Cary, to answer. Keisha simply knows that she enjoys all her performances. Just last month she won the soloist category in the World Steelband Music Festival. She was excited when the results were announced and she emerged the victor. As if remembering the excitement of that night, Keisha blurted out, “and we came second in the duet and we came first in the quartet.” click for full story Important players in steel pan music Lord Kitchener, Robert Greenidge and The Renegades Steel Orche-stra are just three of many important players in the history of steel pan music. Lord Kitchener has been identified as the greatest composer of tunes for the steel pan. Greenidge is considered to be the most successful pan soloist while the Renegades Steel Orchestra is one of the oldest surviving bands in steel pan history.
Many of Kitchener’s compositions have won Panorama titles in Trinidad. At least eleven of his tunes were winners. It all started in 1964 with “Mama, Dis is Mas”.
His songs came to life again in 1967 with the tune entitled “67.” From that
year, his compositions were consecutive winners until 1976 with titles such as
“The Bull”, “Margie” and “Tribute to Spree Simon”

Sonatas Under NYPD Curfew

Wednesday,
September 1, 2004 Here we go again. With less than three days to go before the grand event - New York's 2004 Panorama- one of the oldest and most respected members of the NY pan fraternity is again being forced to shut down its practice in the early evening. The members of Sonatas are outraged at what they see as insensitivity and total disrespect to their community and culture. Ironically, Sonatas has been practicing in the same spot for over 25 years - a quarter of a century. The band, made up primarily of young people who have dedicated their whole summer towards preparing for their presentation at the New York panorama this Saturday, view this treatment as grossly unfair. http://www.panonthenet.com/articles/opinions/sonatascurfew.htm

- Master Tuner -
New York - September 30, 2004 You can have the best players and the best arranger in the world - but it would not matter if the tuner is not right.
When Steel Talks provides an exclusive interview with master tuner Mr. Roland Harrigan. Mr. Harrigan took a few minutes away from his busy schedule and daunting task of preparing New York's powerhouse Pantonic Steel orchestra's instruments for panorama.
Mr. Harrigan who has been tuning professionally for over 30 years is instrumental in contributing to the overall sound of the world-class steel Pantonic orchestra that has won four championships in their seven-year history. Indeed that sound can be heard in their critically acclaimed CD Pantonic Live! Web Posted - Wednesday, September 29, 2004

September 20, 2004 By PATRICK GALLAHUE September 20, 2004 -- The West Indian Day Parade in Brooklyn needs a management shake-up — and could be forced to make some major changes to keep it afloat, The Post has learned. The parade is struggling to acquire "adequate corporate support for its sustainability and growth," a recent state-funded report said. And facing increasing competition from other cities, the study recommended the organizing committee — known as the West Indian Day Carnival Association — "outsource" some events and mix corporate figures into its leadership. Let's face it Pan and the
Panman represent one of the greatest love stories of all time.
However, every year at this time in New York 80% of the New York pan
community have a lovers' break up with pan. "You see me - I done,
you hear me, that's it" they all say. The killer of this great
steelpan romance and subsequent NY horrors is Panorama.
