Fifth Championship for Arranger André White in UK Panorama Arena
London, England, U.K. -
....And - now for the REWRITE. For more than ninety minutes -
results of Ebony Steelband taking Panorama title twenty-five,
and Duvone Stewart having his sixth success in the UK Panorama
stood. After all, results were announced ‘live’ just around
11:38 p.m....People had left the venue, were on their way home.
Ebony supporters, their hearts full with fierce pride for yet
another victory. Stories published.

Tobago, W.I. - The Tobago-based RBC Redemption Sound Setters Steel Orchestra hosted a pan camp for 41 youngsters comprising children from Tobago and the US in July.
A media release said the vacation pan camp 2024 was designed for novices.
Under the tutelage of Shaquille Broomes and Dachelle Morrison, the
students were exposed to both theory and practical elements of the pan,
including knowledge of scales and chords at the introductory level.

Trinidad & Tobago, W.I. - The ‘Steelpan is More Beautiful – Canopeum Amoris’ competition continues, with the ensemble finals taking place on August 17 at Queen’s Hall, St Ann’s Road, Port of Spain.
It is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
Six out of the 15 qualifying bands will vie for the title.
South band
Golden Hands,
whose bandleader,
the late Franka Patricia Gillian Hills-Headley, died recently, took the
lead during the qualifying round.

Another win was racked up by the top steel orchestra in Grenada
at the annual steelband Panorama competition. Playing Mr.
Gold’N’s In Me Head arranged by Cordel Byam, this is the
fourteenth championship for New Dimension, and the third for
Byam in the country’s senior competition.

Antigua & Barbuda, W.I. -
The ARG (Antigua Recreation Grounds) in the capital of St.
John’s reverberated with the steelband Panorama once more on
this August 3 evening, where both steelband music lovers and
steel orchestras were present for this annual meet-up. The
championship collaboration that is Hells Gate Steel Orchestra
and arranger Khan Cordice was in force once again, trouncing six
challengers to their throne, playing Ricardo Drue’s Ah Love
It Here.

musical organization that is Angel Harps Juniors powered its way
to the top once more this year. The steel
orchestra bested equally eager fellow youth musicians from five other
bands, at the junior national Panorama competition on Saturday August 3
and, in doing so, continues its musical domination for one more year.

Trinidad & Tobago, W.I. - Award-winning journalist John Babb was remembered as an icon of the local media fraternity by his former colleagues and friends who paid tribute following his death yesterday morning.
Babb, 91, started his almost 70-year career at the Port-of-Spain Gazette in 1946 before moving to the T&T Guardian.
....He said while Babb will be most remembered for his contribution to the local media, he was also a pan-aficionado who had a long association with the St. James Tripolians Steel Orchestra.
“In the early days of Triploians Steel Orchestra he was very
instrumental to its resurgence as a pan round the neck or single
pan band,” [former T&T Guardian Sports Editor Valentino] Singh
said.

Facebook “Likes” sends PanOnTheNet Apology - “We got it wrong”
Metaverse - Facebook got it
wrong. About three years ago without warning or reason all WST
(When Steel Talks) steelpan-related accounts fell out of favor
with the social media giant Facebook now known as Meta and its
aligned consortiums (Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp). Because
WST has all of our material hosted on our own shared servers,
this ‘tag’ was not incurable or as problematic as it could have
been. However, it was annoying to have people seeking critical
steelpan music info diverted by Facebook AI (artificial
intelligence).

Global - On Tuesday July 26, 2022 the steelpan instrument of Trinidad and Tobago is featured and celebrated on the site of technology giant “Google” via the famed Google ‘Doodle.’ The ‘Doodle’ is essentially an illustrative change made to the Google corporate logo “to celebrate holidays, anniversaries, and the lives of famous artists, pioneers, and scientists” - and more. The doodle is then seen by users all around the world who access Google’s homepage on that day, and is available thereafter in the doodle archives.
....Trinidad and Tobago-based artist Nicholas Huggins is the creator of the
illustrative artwork featured in the doodle, while
Etienne Charles is the composer
of the accompanying music performed by the legendary steelpan icon
