Results - Katzenjammers Steel Orchestra Retains Medium Band Championship with Arranger Kersh Ramsey - Trinidad & Tobago National Panorama 2024
Bacolet, Trinidad & Tobago, W.I. - Ten of the finest steel orchestras competing in the Medium category of the 2024 Trinidad & Tobago National Panorama had their time to shine musically in the finals on February 4.
The Dwight Yorke Stadium in Tobago was the event venue where Sangre Grande Cordettes, the first steel orchestra heard from at 8:00 p.m., set the stage for an evening of performances before judges and steelpan music lovers alike. Twenty-one bands representative of four regions – Tobago, North, East and South/Central regions – were scored coming out of the preliminaries. Making this final cut were four from the East, three from Tobago, two from South/Central and one from the North.
By 11:55 p.m. AST (Atlantic Standard Time), Katzenjammers Steel Orchestra taking the stage in position ten, closed off the show with the late Merchant’s Rock It. Results were ready by 12:20 a.m. with Katzenjammers as defending champs retaining the title, making it their fourth Panorama championship in the Medium band category. Second place went to Pan Elders with arranger Ojay Richards. Incidentally, Richards and the arranger for Katzenjammers, Kersh Ramsey, are co-arrangers in the Large band category for Silver Stars Steel Orchestra. The finals for that competition will be on Saturday, February 10.
Couva Joylanders were third overall. Each competing band was
required to perform with between seventy and ninety musicians.

category’s final night, is as follows:

3rd - TT $500,000.00 - circa US $73,024.00
4th - TT $425,000.00 - circa US $62,070.00

This is the third year that event organizer Pan Trinbago has held the Medium band component of the country’s annual National Panorama in the sister isle of Tobago. Three more major steelband competitions are on the schedule for the season, all coming up this week: THA Tobago Pan Champs, February 6; South Central Pan Champs, February 8, and; Panorama (Large steel orchestras), February 10.
