Results - Medium Conventional Steel Orchestra Semi-Finals - Trinidad & Tobago National Panorama 2024
Trinidad & Tobago, W.I. - There was a jockeying for positioning in the first leg of the semi-finals—aka “Savannah Party”—in the Medium band category, of the 2024 Trinidad & Tobago National Panorama, where the defending champions switched places with the 2020 title holders. Katzenjammers Steel Orchestra took over the top spot from Couva Joylanders Steel Orchestra who are now in second place as final night competition looms. In third position at this juncture is Curepe Scherzando Steel Orchestra. Come February 4, the fierce musical battle continues, not only between these two bands, but among all ten orchestras in contention for the title, trophy and prize purse of TT $600,000.00.
Results for the thirteen medium bands were made available while the large steel orchestras were competing. They were shared on TTT Limited which was carrying the event. There were actually fourteen semi-finalists. However Valley Harps Steel Orchestra which made it into the semi-finals in a three-way tie in twelfth place, took the stage, but did not perform.
It appears - according to presenters - that the band did not have its full complement of musicians to be judged at this point which resulted in disqualification. According to the 2024 Panorama Rules, a minimum of seventy is mandatory. No official reason has been heard by online viewers at this point; one may eventually be forthcoming from event organizer Pan Trinbago.
The three steel orchestras which did not make it past this point are La Brea Nightingales, Tornadoes and Tunapuna Tipica.
Following are the results for the semi-final competition for Medium conventional steel orchestras as shared via TTT Limited during the live broadcast of the event, which continued with the large steel orchestras.
