Besides being in the top spot going into the finals as the band
with the highest score (276), Katzenjammers Steel Orchestra, as
the title defender is also well positioned in the most literal
sense. The band performs last in the line-up of ten steel
orchestras on February 4, finals night for the Medium category
of the 2024 Trinidad & Tobago National Panorama.

and now four going into the finals of the ‘big band’ competition
- including the four steel orchestras in fourth position... Yes
- Desperadoes, Invaders, Starlift and Tropical Angel Harps are
for now, all yoked together with identical scores of 275.
The semi-finals in the large conventional steel orchestra
category delivered these, along with three more.

There was a jockeying for positioning in the first leg of the
semi-finals—aka “Savannah Party”—in the Medium band category, of
the 2024 Trinidad & Tobago National Panorama, where the
defending champions switched places with the 2020 title holders.
Katzenjammers Steel Orchestra took over the top spot from Couva
Joylanders Steel Orchestra who are now in second place as final
night competition looms.

All sixteen large steel orchestras which delivered preliminary
round performances in their respective pan yards, will perform
in the semi-finals of the 2024 Trinidad & Tobago National
Panorama. Last year, fourteen out of seventeen advanced. From
Saturday January 20—Tuesday January 23, this year’s participants
in the large category delighted their supporters and pan music
lovers in general with their music selections for the season.

This year the medium band category of the 2024 Trinidad & Tobago
National Panorama fielded twenty-one steel orchestras in the
preliminary phase of competition.
....Katzenjammers Steel Orchestra is the defending champion, and
are presently in second place behind 2020’s champs, Couva
Joylanders Steel Orchestra. Pamberi and Pan Elders steel
orchestras tied for third position, rounding out the top three
spots in the preliminaries.

Dimension and Arranger Kersh Ramsey Keep Championship in Tobago

Side Dimension Steel Orchestra paid off big time, in the form of

championship trophy, and bragging rights for a full year until

the conventional steel orchestra component of 2024 Trinidad &

its lead coming out of the preliminaries and going into the home

conventional category are from sister isle Tobago, including
title defenders Uptown Fascinators.
Golden Hands Steel Orchestra will deliver the opening musical

Trinidad & Tobago, W.I. -
Fifteen bands are on their way to the final night competition on
January 12, in the Small steel orchestra category of the 2024
Trinidad & Tobago National Panorama. Just before 1:40 a.m. local
time, Fascinators Pan Symphony sounded its final notes, having
played Sedley “Penguin” Joseph’s much-loved “Deputy” arranged by
Amrit Samaroo. Twenty-nine out of the thirty semi-final steel
orchestras took their respective performances to the audience,
and panel of judges - as they vied for one more chance for being
champion in their category for 2024.

this ‘tag’ was not incurable or as problematic as it could have

Global - On Tuesday July 26, 2022 the
steelpan instrument of Trinidad and Tobago is featured and celebrated on the
site of technology giant “Google” via the famed Google ‘Doodle.’ The ‘Doodle’
is essentially an illustrative change made to the Google corporate logo “to
celebrate holidays, anniversaries, and the lives of famous artists, pioneers,
and scientists” - and more. The doodle is then seen by users all around the
world who access Google’s homepage on that day, and is available thereafter
in the doodle archives.
....Trinidad and Tobago-based artist Nicholas Huggins is the creator of the
illustrative artwork featured in the doodle, while Etienne Charles is the composer
of the accompanying music performed by the legendary steelpan icon Len “Boogsie”
Sharpe.
