Nine countries - Antigua & Barbuda, Belize, Canada, France, Grenada, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, Trinidad & Tobago and USA were represented in the 2022 PanoGrama. Three participants withdrew for personal reasons, including Antigua & Barbuda’s Jawan Henry, Kraig Bisnott of Jamaica, and Miguel Bougouneau of the US Virgin Islands.
Each participating panist played their arrangement of their tune of choice, and was judged on criteria that included variations, execution and performance. In keeping with event rules performances allowed were between three, and four and a half minutes in length. The USA (David Yundi), Canada (Gabriel Chartrand), France (Mathieu Borgne) and Trinidad & Tobago (Shaquille Forbes) are the top scorers in the preliminaries and lead the way for now going into the semi-finals.
David Yundi of the USA - PanoGrama 2022 Preliminaries
The adjudication panel this year fields Dr. Mia Gormandy-Benjamin, an Assistant Professor of music at the University of Trinidad & Tobago, Northern Illinois University’s Professor Liam Teague and adjunct professor of music at George Mason University Victor Provost as the three main judges, with Ojay Richards and Andy Chichester ready to fill in as substitutes. For the preliminary phase, Chichester has indeed alternated for Liam Teague, who will be in place for the semi finals.
Each night’s segment was no more than one hour, as host Nevin Roach – founder and CEO of PanoGrama, and co-host Aundrea Wharton took viewers through the submitted performances. The outcome of the three nights was announced immediately after Sunday’s show ended.
Results follow, with scores and placements.
