Ojay Richards Capture Title
Trinidad & Tobago, W.I. - Uptown Fascinators Steel Orchestra out of sister isle Tobago bested thirteen co-competitors to clinch the championship and trophy in the 2020 Small conventional steel orchestra finals of the Trinidad and Tobago National Panorama. They performed Ojay Richards’ winning arrangement of an ’oldie but goldie’ from Winston Soso, “I Don’t Mind.” All fourteen steel orchestras put on fiery performances in the finals on Friday January 17 at the Queen’s Park Savannah in Port-of-Spain. The 2019 defending champs T&T Defence Force in second place were on the heels of the new champions, with 282 points.
West Side Symphony, the final of five steel orchestras from Tobago, Trinidad’s sister isle, was the last on stage. Eventually placing fifth, the band wrapped up the competition at 12:07 a.m., local time. Results were announced not long after 12:30 a.m. For the most part, the bands’ final positions did not differ drastically from their semi-finals results one week ago. Ezra Joseph, Joanna Shortt, Kenrick Noel, Richard Pierre, Roger Sardinah and Vorbin Cordice were the final night judges.
Forty steel orchestras participated originally in the small conventional band preliminaries.
Following are the full results for the final phase of competition for Small conventional steel orchestras.
