Finals Results for Small Conventional Steel Orchestras - Trinidad & Tobago National Panorama 2019 - ‘First-timer’ T&T Defence Force Steel Orchestra Romps Away With Title, Trophy, Prize Purse
Trinidad & Tobago, W.I. - The small steel orchestra front-runner from the preliminaries and semi-finals held on and continued its winning ways in last evening’s (February 28) finals, and triumphed over its thirteen challengers, copping the title. But the 2019 champion T&T Defence Force Steel Orchestra is a “first-timer” in ‘name’ only, somewhat - being world-renowned as a military marching band, performing in countries around the world. Competing in the Single Pan band category in previous years, it is, however, the first time for the band in this, the conventional steel orchestra arena. And, they landed with a splash, eventually dethroning title defenders Golden Hands Steel Orchestra in the process; the latter came in third. For its competitive transition, T&T Defence Force Steel Orchestra chose an ‘oldie’ by “Bally” - Maxi Dub - and had secured the musical services of multi-champion arranger Duvone Stewart; and the rest, is, as they say, history.
New East Side Dimension Steel Orchestra and arranger Kersh Ramsey did the sister isle of Tobago proud, taking the second place spot. There were two ties - three at seventh, and two taking twelfth positions, respectively.
As is customary, this Final night competition returned to its familiar venue of Skinner Park in San Fernando, south Trinidad. The event was organized by Pan Trinbago.
The second and final leg of the 2019 Trinidad & Tobago National Panorama Finals will feature the medium and large steel orchestras. They will be on stage tomorrow, Saturday March 2, in north Trinidad at the Queen’s Park Savannah in Port-of-Spain.
Below are the full results for the fourteen Small Steel Orchestra finalists.
