Finals: Order of Appearance for LARGE Steel Orchestras

the final night competitors taking the stage at Dwight Yorke
Stadium in Bacolet, Tobago - half of the ten steel orchestras
are themselves past champions. And three are competing
back-to-back in positions two, three and four, respectively;
title defenders Katzenjammers Steel Orchestra, Couva Joylanders
and Pan Elders.
....Arima Angel Harps is first on stage, while Dixieland closes
off the competition. Event organizer Pan Trinbago has a start
time of 7:00 p.m. AST (Atlantic Standard Time) on schedule.

Pan Trinbago president
Beverley Ramsey-Moore
has stoutly defended
her band’s victory in the National Panorama Medium
Conventional band final at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet,
Tobago, on February 23.
Ramsey-Moore is the leader of
Katzenjammers,
which won a hat-trick in the competition with its stirring version of the
Mighty Sparrow (Slinger Francisco) tune Lying Excuses.
The song was arranged by her nephew
Kersh Ramsey,
who also led Katzenjammers to victory in the
2023
and
2024
medium band competitions.
After the presentation, Ramsey-Moore was asked to respond to critics who
might regard Katzenjammers as benefiting from bias, owing to her family ties
with the arranger and her position as Pan Trinbago president.
Ramsey-Moore responded initially, “Talent is talent.”

....The musical quest was a resounding success for
Katzenjammers Steel Orchestra with arranger
Kersh Ramsey, as 2025 marks
their third consecutive win in the medium category. Earlier in the
season, they let it be known that the band is looking at entering the
large band category for Panorama 2026. The music organization appears to be a hub of
fruitful family coordination, managed by Beverley Ramsey-Moore. Working along
with Kersh Ramsey was band captain/driller Maxson Ramsey, while
Reshon Ramsey held it down as drummer.

Calypso Fiesta 2025 Finalists - Trinidad & Tobago Carnival

....TUCO has released the names of the eleven Calypsonians who qualified
for the finals. They move on to the calypso monarch Dimanche
Gras Finals on Sunday March 2 at Carnival City, Queen’s Park
Savannah in Port-of-Spain. They will be challenging the reigning
monarch, Machel Montano, for his title.

New Coat of Arms to be used from February 25
The updated Coat of Arms of Trinidad and Tobago

Six months after it was announced that changes would be made to
the country’s Coat of Arms, the newly modified emblem has been
proclaimed by President Christine Carla Kangaloo.
The new Coat of Arms featuring the Steelpan which is T&T’s
national instrument, will officially be utilised from February
25.
....The Act affects the replacement of the images of Christopher
Columbus’ three ships with a gold Steelpan and its iconic two
pan sticks.

Global - Fifteen bands took
the stage at the semi-finals competition for large steel
orchestras at the Queen’s Park Savannah on Sunday February 16,
as part of the exciting steelband music fiesta affectionately
dubbed ‘the Savannah Party.’ At the end of it all, indeed, only
ten made the final cut for the last musical battle in the large
category for the 2025 Trinidad & Tobago National Panorama,
taking place on Saturday March 1.

Tobago National Panorama 2025
Global - The semi-finals, aka
the ‘Savannah Party’ was still officially underway when results
were released not too long before midnight, local time. The
large steel orchestras were still in the spotlight, and up to
band number eleven at that point - Silver Stars Steel Orchestra.
As that band was setting up, the results for the Medium steel
orchestras were announced, with the top ten moving forward to
their finals on Sunday February 23.

Antigua’s Hells Gate Steel Orchestra Celebrates its 80th
Anniversary
Caribbean Union Bank Hells Gate Steel Orchestra,
celebrating 80 years of continuous existence,
performed at the St. Peter’s Anglican Church in
Parham Town
Antigua & Barbuda, W.I. -
Wednesday 5th February 2025 at Antigua & Barbuda’s
National Music Awards, Hells Gate Steel Orchestra picked up the
Steelband of the Year Award for the period 2023 - 2024.
The band also performed at the St. Peter’s Anglican Church on
Sunday February 9th as part of its 80th
Anniversary celebrations. The group presented a mixture of
Gospel and Classical pieces.

own, this graphic is a reminder that This (Trinidad and Tobago)
is ‘Pan Country.’ These words are expressed in two diagonally

Trinidad & Tobago unveil new coat of arms after Columbus’
ships replaced with Steelpan
Trinidad and Tobago’s PM has previously stated that the
three Columbus ships on the twin-island nation’s emblem is “substantial in
how we see ourselves.”

U.K. - The Government of
Trinidad and Tobago has unveiled its new coat of arms after
Christopher Columbus’ ships were replaced by the Steelpan.
The new design features an image of a gold Steelpan and the iconic pan
sticks, replacing Christopher Columbus’ three ships – the Niña, Pinta, and
Santa Maria.
A bill which allows for the replacement of illustrations was unanimously
passed in the House of Representatives on 13 January 2025.
....For now, the former Coat of Arms may be used until 1 January 2026, or
such later date as the Minister may prescribe by Order.

Friends Again
Facebook “Likes” sends PanOnTheNet Apology - “We got it
wrong”
Metaverse - Facebook got it
wrong. About three years ago without warning or reason all WST
(When Steel Talks) steelpan-related accounts fell out of favor
with the social media giant Facebook now known as Meta and its
aligned consortiums (Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp). Because
WST has all of our material hosted on our own shared servers,
this ‘tag’ was not incurable or as problematic as it could have
been. However, it was annoying to have people seeking critical
steelpan music info diverted by Facebook AI (artificial
intelligence).

Doodle

Doodle of steelpan instrument ‘live’ on Google’s web site
Global - On Tuesday July 26, 2022 the
steelpan instrument of Trinidad and Tobago is featured and celebrated on the
site of technology giant “Google” via the famed Google ‘Doodle.’ The ‘Doodle’
is essentially an illustrative change made to the Google corporate logo “to
celebrate holidays, anniversaries, and the lives of famous artists, pioneers,
and scientists” - and more. The doodle is then seen by users all around the
world who access Google’s homepage on that day, and is available thereafter
in the doodle archives.
....Trinidad and Tobago-based artist Nicholas Huggins is the creator of the
illustrative artwork featured in the doodle, while
Etienne Charles is the composer
of the accompanying music performed by the legendary steelpan icon
Len “Boogsie”
Sharpe.
