Preliminary Results for Small Conventional Steel Orchestras - Trinidad & Tobago National Panorama 2019
Trinidad & Tobago, W.I. - It has been a Panorama season marked by uncertainty—mainly financial—for several steel orchestras in the ‘Home of Pan,’ resulting in several bands previously registered to participate in the annual competition - subsequently not taking part in the 2019 preliminary rounds. Most impacted was the small conventional category, where originally around fifty-seven were listed, but eventually forty-five vied for the thirty available slots going into the semi finals. In just a few days on Saturday February 16, each of those making the cut will have a potential shot at the title among the small bands when the finals unfold February 28.
The 2018 champions Golden Hands Steel Orchestra helmed by Vanessa Headley took sixth place in the preliminaries; and there is also a new contender in this category - a band which made the move from Single Pan Band to conventional steel orchestra - the Trinidad & Tobago Defence Force. This band has joined musical forces with powerhouse champion arranger Duvone Stewart and is currently in a three-way tie with New East Side Dimension (with arranger Kersh Ramsey) and Uptown Fascinators (arranger Ojay Richards) - both hailing from the sister isle of Tobago.
Following are the full results for the preliminary phase of competition for Small conventional steel orchestras.
