Results - Small Steel Orchestra Semi-Finals - Trinidad & Tobago National Panorama 2025
Trinidad & Tobago, W.I. - Not long after 4:00 p.m. AST (Atlantic Standard Time) on January 18, Arima Golden Symphony was the first of thirty-one steel orchestras to perform in the semi-finals of the small steel orchestra category of the 2025 Trinidad & Tobago National Panorama. Bands flowed in and out the Victoria Square performance area in front of the panel of judges.
Pauses, including after the fifteenth competitor, St. Margaret’s Superstars, allowed respites for the judges. Around 8:50 p.m. Uptown Fascinators led by arranger Ojay Richards took the competition into the second half. Semi-final competitions are always hours long, but for the pan community they are simply hours of steelband euphoria.
After more than ten hours of competitive performances, last of all from the defending champion New East Side Dimension, the competition wrapped musically at 2:13 a.m. Results came around 2:40 a.m. And the reigning champs remain the ones to beat going into the finals, having scored 275 in the semis. As in the preliminaries, there were multiple ties among the semi-finals results. Southern Stars Steel Orchestra and Tobago Pan-Thers rounded out the top three in a tie.
In just one week’s time, the top fourteen face-off once again for the final time. The goal - the championship trophy and prize purse. Seventeen bands remained on the virtual ‘cutting floor,’ not making it out of the semi-finals.
Venue for final night competition is in the south at Skinner Park in San Fernando, with an expected show time of 7:00 p.m.
